Course Content

Roles and Responsibilities of a First Aider

  • Assessing an incident
  • Recording/reporting accidents (RIDDOR)
  • Minimising infection risks

Wounds and Bleeding

  • Types of wounds and how to treat them
  • Applying dressings and controlling bleeding

Primary Survey & CPR

  • Danger response, Airway, Breathing, Circulation (DRABC)
  • CPR for adults
  • Use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)

Shock

  • Identifying symptoms
  • Appropriate treatment and positioning

Unconscious Casualty

  • Recovery position
  • Monitoring vital signs

Minor Injuries

  • Cuts, grazes, bruises
  • Burns and scalds
  • Nosebleeds and eye injuries

Choking

  • Recognition and treatment of choking
  • Back blows and abdominal thrusts

Seizures

  • Types of seizures
  • First aid response
