Course Content
Roles and Responsibilities of a First Aider
- Assessing an incident
- Recording/reporting accidents (RIDDOR)
- Minimising infection risks
Wounds and Bleeding
- Types of wounds and how to treat them
- Applying dressings and controlling bleeding
Primary Survey & CPR
- Danger response, Airway, Breathing, Circulation (DRABC)
- CPR for adults
- Use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
Shock
- Identifying symptoms
- Appropriate treatment and positioning
Unconscious Casualty
- Recovery position
- Monitoring vital signs
Minor Injuries
- Cuts, grazes, bruises
- Burns and scalds
- Nosebleeds and eye injuries
Choking
- Recognition and treatment of choking
- Back blows and abdominal thrusts
Seizures
- Types of seizures
- First aid response
